Born April 13, 1949 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Laura Chester grew up in Milwaukee and Oconomowoc, Wisconsin with a large extended family. Married to Geoffrey Young in 1969, they set up camp in Albuquerque, New Mexico where they edited the magazine Stooge, and began a small, literary press, The Figures. With moves to Paris and Berkeley, Chester finally settled in the Berkshires of Massachusetts with her sons Clovis and Ayler. She now lives on “Rose Hill” in Alford with her husband Mason Rose. Chester has consistently written and published books of poetry, prose-poems, short stories, novels, as well as non-fiction, while editing six important anthologies of American writing.
